Propecia is a remedy which can help prevent baldness in men. It is known as an antiandrogen. The active ingredient in propecia is finasteride which counteracts the action of the male hormone dihydrotestosterone. Too much sensitivity to this hormone can cause hair loss, and the use of propecia can thus slow hair loss and promote new hair growth.

Propecia is a medication usually prescribed for men aged 18 to 41 to combat baldness (alopecia androgenetica). Its active ingredient (finasteride) inhibits the action of the male hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), so propecia acts as an antiandrogen.
Hypersensitivity to DHT is one of the causes of hair loss in men.
Propecia can also be used to treat an enlarged prostate, but this requires finasteride to be prescribed in larger doses. However,
Propecia in a 1mg dose is primarily intended for treating male baldness.
Propecia can prevent hair loss and promote the growth of new hair in (partially) bald areas. Becoming bald at a young age can have multiple causes, which includes hereditary factors. But sensitivity to the male hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) can be a further cause. As propecia’s active ingredient, finasteride counteracts the effect of this hormone and can thus prevent hair loss.
The effect is usually noticeable within 2-6 months, but it won’t work for everyone. Moreover, the effect is temporary. Once the drug is discontinued, new hair often disappears within a year. So for permanent results it’s best to continue the medication.
Propecia is available in tablet form and should be taken daily with some water. To avoid missing a dose, it’s advisable to do this at a fixed time.
It is usually necessary to take the medication for 2-6 months to establish whether it is effective. And if it works, the medication must be continued to maintain its effects.
You can only purchase Propecia on prescription.
