    What is Seretide?

Doctors prescribe Seretide for people with asthma and COPD.

In asthma, the airways narrow when they are stimulated, for example by smoke, cold and exertion.

The airways of people with COPD are chronically narrowed and contain a lot of mucus. Anxiety and coughing are common symptoms for both asthma and COPD.

    How does Seretide work?

Seretide is a combination of two active ingredients: salmeterol and fluticasone.

Salmeterol relaxes the muscles of the airways, thus reducing any narrowing, and breathlessness usually decreases within 20 minutes.

Fluticasone is an anti-inflammatory resembling the body's own adrenal cortex hormones (corticosteroids or corticoids). By inhibiting inflammation, it protects the airways in the longer term. The airways also become less sensitive to stimuli such as cold and exertion, as a result of which mucus formation and coughing decrease.

    How is Seretide used?

Seretide is available in various strengths, such as Seretide 250 and Seretide 500. The powder is contained in an inhaler or disk and must be inhaled.

After inhaling Seretide, rinse the mouth to clear any remaining powder. It is not easy to use inhaled medications such as Seretide. Your doctor, nurse or pharmacist can teach you how to do this.

You should also have a yearly check to monitor whether the product is still being used properly. Don’t stop this medication without consulting the doctor who prescribed it.

    Does Seretide require a prescription?

Seretide is produced by GlaxoSmithKline BV and available as Seretide accuhaler 250 and Seretide accuhaler 500. It may only be prescribed by a doctor.

Don’t buy cheap online variants of this medication. They may be counterfeit and potentially dangerous.
