What is Vesicare and when is it used?

Vesicare is prescribed for two conditions: urge incontinence and prostatic hyperplasia.

Urge incontinence occurs when the muscles of the urinary bladder become overactive and contract randomly. This creates the urge to urinate, even when the bladder is not full.

In prostate hyperplasia, the prostate becomes enlarged and presses on the urethra, making it more difficult to urinate properly.

    How does Vesicare work?

Solifenacin reduces bladder muscle contraction, which allows the bladder to hold more urine and reduces the urge to urinate. This avoids frequent urination and so urinary incontinence decreases.

The urge to urinate also decreases for men with an enlarged prostate, but Vesicare cannot reduce the size of the prostate.

    How should Vesicare be used?

Vesicare tablets should be taken with a glass of water and swallowed immediately. Don’t dissolve the tablets, because this will reduce their effect.

If solifenacin tablets have no noticeable effect after four weeks, further use won’t be effective. You should then discuss alternative options with the doctor who prescribed your medication.

Can Vesicare be obtained without a prescription?

Vesicare is produced by Astellas Pharma B.V. Its active ingredient is solifenacin. Vesicare is available in two strengths: Vesicare 5 mg and Vesicare 10 mg.

Some websites offer cheaper variants of Vesicare, but these tablets rarely contain solifenacin and are therefore ineffective. These medications may even contain harmful substances.

Buy Vesicare via your doctor's prescription from a licensed pharmacy.
